How to Use the Midjourney Pan & Blend Features to Render Your Best Self

Midjourney has so many tools and tricks for the user to create whatever they want. AI gives us a way to create without limits and a few helpful tools to steer your way towards your true vision. I want to show you how I use the Midjourney Pan feature to create a world around your photos, and how to use “blend” to combine the cute and the crazy.

We are going to start with two photos, uploaded to a personal discord channel.

In order to use an image for Midjourney to model its outputs on, you must lead your prompt with a URL link. Either one you’ve grabbed from the interwebs, or one you upload yourself. For this demo, I’ve uploaded a photo of myself and a photo of my cat, Jawa. I’m going to use prompts for a Pixar style today.

Prompt: [your image URL here] drawn as a pixar cartoon

Admit it, I’m too cute for words.

It’s Time for the Midjourney PAN

Now the fun part. See these little arrows?

These buttons will pan the camera up, down, left, or right. For this picture, I want to add a cartoon version of Jawa to the right side of the photo. First, I click pan right. Then, get the link address from the other photo I uploaded.

NOTE: Make sure remix mode is on. Type /settings into Midjourney and hit enter. Find the remix icon and make sure it is lit up green. This will allow you to edit the text of your prompts.

prompt: [URL for the photo you are adding] draw as a pixar cartoon.

Epic kitty photobomb FTW.

The Midjourney Pan feature is truly amazing to add characters or props to your photo, it can even give your photo a wider side angle. It’s all about the aesthetic, you know?

Let’s go back to the first photo of cartoon me, and click ‘pan down’ this time. I did not add any additional prompts for this photo. Let’s see what MJ does with it.

Read any good books lately?

By panning down, Midjourney created more of a portrait shot and gave me 4 pictures of my character holding different things (pencils, notebook, and stuffed animals) The book is my favorite out of the four, but the fuzzy orange creature gets an honorable mention.

Now, let’s see what happens if we pan up.

What’s your fave?

Since I used “pixar” in the prompt, 3 of the 4 photos had cute little animals on my character’s head. It is always a good idea to prompt in different cartoon art styles (anime, pixar, pencil drawn, ect) will give Midjourney a good idea of where to go with your photo. This was my favorite, with just the added minimalist window to add to the atmosphere of the photo.

Now Let’s Try Midjourney BLEND

Another feature Midjourney offers is blend. This feature allows the user to upload 2-4 photos and combine them into one.

First, type /blend and hit enter. Your screen will look a little something like this.

Now, you can input your two photos. For this example, I used these two photos.

And we let Midjourney work its magic.

Awww. So cute. Now let’s do a Freddy style blend.

That’s what I’m talking about. Freddy and Freddy, by Freddy. You’re welcome.

Stay chaotic, my friends.
